March 10, 2026 – Barcelona, Spain – At MWC 2026, the European Commission and a consortium led by Telefónica, consisting of more than 70 European entities, officially launched EURO-3C, the first pan-European sovereign infrastructure integrating telecom, edge computing, cloud and AI capabilities, aiming to accelerate Europe’s digital and industrial transformation.
Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe program with a budget of €75 million, EURO-3C is aligned with the priorities of the EU’s Digital Decade Policy Program 2030, which regards secure and sustainable digital infrastructure as a strategic pillar. The infrastructure deploys a federated multi-telecom and multi-vendor system in production environments, with more than 70 edge and cloud nodes distributed across more than 13 European countries.
This network is capable of providing advanced digital services with high standards of performance, interoperability and security, meeting the critical needs of sectors such as automotive, transportation, energy and public safety. EURO-3C features three core advantages: federation, which connects the existing capabilities of multiple operators and cloud providers under a common European framework; pan-European industrial scale, through collaboration between operators, industry, technology suppliers, SMEs and research centers; and validated impact, with nine high-value business use cases to demonstrate practical applicability and scalability.
Renate Nikolay, Deputy Director General at the European Commission, stated that the launch of EURO-3C is a key step in promoting Europe-made secure digital communication infrastructure, leveraging the convergence of telecom, edge and cloud technologies with AI to benefit industrial sectors and society as a whole. Juan Montero, Director of Public Policy at Telefónica, added that the project will consolidate Europe’s digital sovereignty and enhance its competitiveness in the global 3C digital and tech industry.
